A homage to some of Doug’s most influential predecessors
Simple ideas into great art...
Not long after it opened, Doug and Suzi paid a visit to Tate Modern and Doug had one of the seminal moments of his artistic life. He walked into a large hall exhibiting Mark Rothko’s work and has never, before or since, been struck by a painting the way he was that day. The impact was so great that when he left the gallery, his outlook on art had changed forever. Doug says: “We can all be art critics at times, and be negative about abstract or so-called modern art. But I believe passionately that all the artists who inspired this collection did something amazing. The ideas may seem simple but they are their ideas, new and original and unlike anyone else’s. Each of them has created something incredibly appealing, thought provoking and simply stunning to look at. I hope that you can join with me in celebrating the artists who have inspired me and enjoy my homage to their creations.”
