Rural Retreat

A move into the countryside and a whole new life for Doug and his family

A uniquely personal tribute...

to life, love and lasting friendships for Doug. Having grown up in central Bristol, moving to rural Gloucestershire marked a massive change in his lifestyle. The beauty and tranquillity of his surroundings offered a peaceful new environment in which to think, observe, imagine, sketch and create some of the finest work of his career.

Rural Retreat grew out of this new life. After creating a charcoal sketch of a trespassing cat one day, Doug thought it might be fun to create a friend for him, and soon discovered himself deep in the world of the local animal life, domestic, farmyard and of course, wild.

“Friends are hugely important in any rural community, and not just the human variety”
